Next on the agenda was the front canopy. The jettison system needed some tuning to get this to work more smoothly.

A trial fit of the canopy revealed that there is a slight twist in the frame which is compensated by a couple of steel lugs which act as guides. These guides were attached by aluminium pop rivets sometime in the past, The forces on these guides due to the twisted frame are such that the rivets loosened over time, thus preventing the guides to do the guiding. We fixed this by replacing the rivets with M4 high tensile bolts. This proved to be trickier than initially thought due to the need for high precision of the bolt lengths, to avoid interference with the canopy skirts at the guide locations.

This fix proved to be highly successful, the closing and locking is now greatly improved.
